Day of Birth

Emerson, it's about 6:30am, on the day of your birth. Your mother and I are so excited to see you in person and finally meet you. We already love you and we'll continue to do so as long as we shall live. It is our goal to teach you what love is, who God is, and how God is love.

It's now about 7:48am and we're headed to the operating room to have a C-section and pull you out of Mommy's tummy. Mommy is a bit nervous (I am a little bit, too), but we prayed and we've laid it all at God's feet, son. We'll teach you how to do this, and the Scripture is true when it says:

"Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." -Philippians 4:4-7 NKJV

And again when it says:

"...The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." -James 5:16 NKJV

We've let our requests made known, several times, to our Lord and we are going into this procedure with a "peace which surpasses all understanding." We are also trusting that the Lord hears our prayers and will certainly do what is best for you and us, as His infinite knowledge does what's best because of His eternal love.

Son, you are certainly loved. So many people are waiting to meet you, and so many are anxious to see what kind of man you'll become. Primary among those is us, your parents, and son we promise you that we will strive to be the godly parents and fitting examples that God expects us to be. We will make mistakes, son. This may derail your confidence in us, and possibly (but hopefully not) your respect for us...son, watch our actions after we have failed. Your mother and I are fighters and we've been knocked down before and we've gotten back up and corrected our misdeeds...this is something that you'll learn, something we'll teach you to do yourself, and something you will observe from us as long as we live.

The time is near, dear Emerson, and we shall all soon meet face-to-face. Thanks, honor, glory, and praise be to God for you.

I love you, son.

-Dad
