Something Within

Something Within

There's something deep within me that burns like wildfire, that yearns to do more, know more, grow more, to be more -- each of these desires in their own way pressing me for more, both as a man and spiritually. As I look to God's word for understanding, I realize that voice inside me is absolutely correct.

To be wise.
To be true.
To be real.

Are these not the things which make us as men admirable? Are not these the things of life which give us pause, which give us reason to lift our eyes and our hearts unto Heaven and thank the Lord for the beauty of them. When these facets of life are molded into a perfect unison in our own lives, when they are who we are, then we possess the greatest blessing of all -- we live like Christ.

Christ was real - what you saw was what you got. What He believed was what He lived, and He lived it out fully and without reservation.

Christ was true - there was no hint of deception nor dishonesty about Him. His words, His actions, His motivations, His thoughts were all in perfect harmony with the Father, the Origin of all truth.

Christ was wise - He had the truth, He lived it out in vivid reality, and thus He was wise. His possession of the truth did not reside only in His mind, nor did it find a home within His personally held beliefs and rest there; no, Christ truly lived what He knew. He showed us how we apply what God has given us in abundance and how to avoid the pitfalls and distractions of man's "wisdom".

When I consider my days, I mourn for those I've wasted in frivolous absurdity; those moments I spent distracted or bothered by things of no real value. The fact I can't remember the reasons for my frustrations in days past is proof enough that what we concern ourselves with is often not worth the time spent lamenting the day -- knowing the reality that if the Lord sees fit to extend our time here, things have a way of working themselves out. The fact I'm alive is proof enough to me of that truth. No, our time should rather be spent in the pursuit of doing something about our situation, busying ourselves in the application of the truth the good Lord gave us, the living out of the wisdom He has seen fit to bestow upon us, in being real about life. It has been the case in my life thus far that what seems to plague me most has been my knowledge of what I know to do and my hesitation, or altogether inaction, to put that truth into practice. Those times when we know what we ought to do, but we fail to follow through. Those things add up over time, and they have a way of weighing us down if we have any conscience whatsoever. The more we increase in our knowledge of God's word, the more is expected of us --- this is exactly by the design of God!! Do we not see it for ourselves?!

Consider just a few verses:

"A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?..."(Lk.6:45-46)

"Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."(2Tim.2:15)

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven..." (Matt.7:21)

"Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin." (Jms.4:17)

How clouded have we allowed ourselves to become in this life of ours? How tainted is our heart that, when we read these verses in all their clarity, we, like fools, walk away and ignore them?

And so as these verses stand in judgment of us as we go about our days may we recognize our need to obey Him, assess our lives in view of the cross and see where we lack, and see clearly if there is any area at all where we fail to measure up to God's standard. Will we allow yet another day to pass without being wise, without using the truth we know and love, without being real about our lives?

I pray this is not another day added to the list of those spent in pursuit of worthless things, but rather it will go down as a day spent in the righteous pursuit of that heavenly home above.

We control our actions; the outcome of our actions are our own doing and we will give answer for all.

"Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man’s all. For God will bring every work into judgment, Including every secret thing, Whether good or evil." (Eccl.12:13-14)

What seeds are we sowing, and what shall we reap for eternity -- will it be life, or will it be death? There's something within always yearning for more -- let that something be our soul yearning for heaven, not our physical flesh yearning for fulfillment in temporal things.

Choose more than this life has to offer --- choose the Lord!
