Make Up Your Mind

Make Up Your Mind

“...Serve the Lord! And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Josh.24:14-15)

Choose for yourselves whom you will serve...

Joshua draws the line in the sand and calls upon the people to quit wavering and make a decision. If you're going to serve the Lord, serve Him! If you're going to make the foolish decision to not serve Him then make it, quit passing yourself off as one of His people and then not serving Him. Joshua is calling for whole-hearted service, not just lip-service. This would require all they had. What Joshua is not saying is that the people should feel free to just do whatever they want, serve idols or God, no big deal. He wants them to decide to follow the Lord, but only if they're truly serious about it.

This call should sound familiar to us as Christians, for our Lord Jesus makes a similar call to us in Matthew 6:24,

"No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon."

So what about you and me, have we made up our minds? If you're going to call yourself after Christ then have you first done what He's required of you to have the privilege of wearing His name (Matt.28:18-20; Mk.16:15-16; 1Pet.3:21; Ac.2:37-38)? Having done this, have you made up your mind to follow Him fully? It's either all the way or none of it, God requires all we have and are (Matt.16:24-26). Take a look at Colossians 3 and consider whether you're measuring up to the role(s) which you have in this life:

* Make up your mind, to be a Christian.
* Make up your mind, to be a husband/wife.
* Make up your mind, to be a father/mother.
* Make up your mind, to be a servant.

Are you truly what you say you are? Are you fulfilling your role in life or are you just saying nice words, wearing a name without living up to it? Don't be a fraud, don't be a fake, quit posing and be exactly what you're called upon to be. Quit wavering, friend. Choose you this day, from this day unto eternity, to be exactly what God calls upon you to be. Make a choice to serve God and live that life to the max. Get serious about walking in the footsteps of Christ! When someone looks at you do they see the reflection of Jesus Christ; if not, why not? Get up, Christian, wake up and follow your Lord!! You don't serve satan anymore, you put that man in the grave, you serve the Lord! So serve Him (Matt.11:28-30; Matt.6:33; Heb.12:1-4; Rev.2:10).

If we're going to make the claim, then let's live up to His Name.

Eternity awaits us my beloved brethren, may we all inherit eternal life and not the flame (Eccl.12:13-14; Heb.4:11-14).
