Focus

Focus

While doing some personal study and reflection this morning I had a realization:

All things in this world tend to fade away in an instant when our focus is on our Lord. There's a peace that comes when that shroud is lifted and we metaphorically see the beauty of our Lord before us. Purpose becomes clear, duty becomes an anticipated objective, fighting to go home becomes a welcome obstacle. Strengthened by the might of the Lord we stand up straight and look the coming issues of life right in the eye, ready to take on whatever comes, knowing that while in this wilderness of life our Lord is ever with us as a pillar of cloud by day and pillar of fire by night. There is only one road that interests me, that's the narrow road home to the Promised Land of Heaven, my home.

Recognizing our goal, seeing our duty and our objective, we stand ready to fight against satan and his deceptions and temptations. While knowing this, we also acknowledge that only if we draw near the Lord will we be able to defeat him (Jms.4:7-8). So much casts itself in our path to try and trip us up as we journey onward to our home, but let us always be watchful (1Cor.10:12-13; Eph.5:8-16). Satan is our Goliath, may we never underestimate him -- but may we never back down from the fight either, may we always have the spirit of David and defeat him every time with the Lord (1Sam.17). Any time we refuse to sin, we deal a fatal blow to satan. The difference is that our Goliath keeps getting up to try and bring us down -- the Lord gives us the strength, like Eleazar, to continue the fight even when others depart from the battle (2Sam.23:9-10) and great is that victory. May the sword cling to our hands, never depart from our side, and may we valiantly wield it as a soldier of the Lord to defeat sin whenever it presents itself.

Let us be determined this day to serve our Lord faithfully with all that we have and are. May we not get distracted, may we strengthen our hand with God's word, and fight courageously for heaven, our homeland. The beauty of the Lord and His ways is all around us, let us open our eyes to His majesty and greatness. Blessed be the name of the Lord!
