The Light

The Light
"There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him... (Jn.1:6-10)
...And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”  (Jn. 3:19-21)
To do evil is equated to hating the light; seeing that Christ is the "true Light" which "gives light to every man", then we can rightfully conclude that to hate the light (and the things of the light) is to hate Christ Himself. Think for a moment the implications of this...

John later writes in the book of first John about this light and the nature of those who reflect Christ (the "true Light"):

"...This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin...(1Jn.1:5-7
...Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. Again, a new commandment I write to you, which thing is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining... He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now. He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes." (1Jn.2:3-4,8-11)
Are you walking in the light of Christ?
Do these verses describe you?
Does the world know you belong to Christ, or are you trying to "blend in" and not truly reflect the "true Light" of Jesus Christ?

From the clothes we wear to the way we talk, act, and think; does the world see a difference in us?
Or do we:
* dress like the world
* talk like the world
* act like the world
* think like the world

Friend, consider that if these things describe you, then you'll live eternity in hell. Jesus doesn't call us to darkness, He doesn't call us to be like the world, and He didn't die so we could fade away into obscurity; no, He calls us to be different and we only do that by living like Him! He is the true Light, we are to reflect Him in all we do, say, think. Here is what our Lord, through John, says about our time here on this earth:
"Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever." (1Jn.2:15-17)
Isn't it about time we make up our minds to truly serve Him?! May we awake from our sleep and get serious about the business of embodying our Lord and reflecting His Light in this dark world of sin (Matt.5:14-16)! It is my sincere hope to encourage us all to continue walking in the light, if it be true with us; however, it is also my sincere hope that if we find ourselves out of step with God's word that we will be shaken to our core with His truth and move to change our lives.

This world is passing away and we will be called to account for all of our deeds, may our deeds align with those of our Savior so we may rest eternally with Him where there is:
"...no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light." (Rev.21:23)
