Unrighteousness - What Are We To Do?

Unrighteous Leaders & Nation - What Are We To Do?

"Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." (1Tim.2:1-4)

Have you and I done this recently? Or, perhaps, even at all?

Before we go tearing down those in power, why wouldn't we - as the saved of this earth - pray for them first? Might I suggest that if we were to stop and pray for them, then perhaps our tongues would be better controlled and not say some of the things I've heard Christians say - things which, I'm ashamed to say, even I have said myself? Consider the wisdom of God through Solomon:

"Do not curse the king, even in your thought; do not curse the rich, even in your bedroom; for a bird of the air may carry your voice, and a bird in flight may tell the matter." (Eccl.10:20)

Consider the fact that we are Christians, a people called out of the world, and as such we are called by our Lord to be lights (Matt.5:14-15). This being so, what manner of conversation should our tongues engage in?

'But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?" (2Pet.3:10-12)

What does the world hear from your mouth as one who calls himself/herself a disciple of Jesus Christ??

"Walk in wisdom toward those who  are outside, redeeming the time. Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one." (Col.4:5-6)

Perhaps we should lead others in prayer for our leaders rather than throwing in our lot to tear them down and deride them? After all, we DO believe James don't we:

"...The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." (Jms.5:16)

What would exalt and fix our nation? Being righteous ourselves and leading others in doing the same:

"The wicked is banished in his wickedness, but the righteous has a refuge in his death. Wisdom rests in the heart of him who has understanding, but what is in the heart of fools is made known. Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people." (Prov.14:32-34)

We may think our leaders and governments as tyrants and evil men, but there is a tyrant and an evil far worse which drives the actions of evil men - satan. How about we seek those who are held in his grasp, those who are enslaved to him in their sin, with the saving blood of Jesus Christ before we decry the predictable sins of sinful men? You and I incessantly complaining about corrupt leaders does not lead others to Christ -- offering the remedy to what lies at the core of corruptness, obedience to Christ, does lead others to Christ truly (Matt.28:18-20; Matt.11:28-30).

Is not this what we should be about, friends and brethren:

"For you were once darkness, but now you  are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. Therefore He says: “Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.” See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil." (Eph.5:8-16)

Indeed the days are evil, and the answer is Jesus. For eternity awaits us all, and our actions here determine our final resting place, not who our rulers are or their level of righteousness or the deeds of evil men set on more evil -- OUR actions determine our home.

To conclude:

"Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all. For God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil." (Eccl.12:13-14)

The world is DYING in sin (Rom.3:23; 6:23), and the remedy is the saving message of Jesus Christ (Ac.2:37-38). So what are you and I going to do about it?
